"But I Already Know How to Read..." How to encourage and develop reading stamina in middle & high school students. (Bri Kappers & Sara Schubert) 12:00-12:50 & 1:00-1:50 in B217
Many of our secondary aged students believe that since they know HOW to read, they don't need to dedicate time to increasing their skills. However, many studies have shown that the majority of students are unprepared for the amount of reading that they will be faced with in college and the workforce. In this session, we will discuss several strategies that we've used to help our students not only build their stamina, but their enjoyment of reading.
Challenging Behaviors & Instruction: How Choosing a Mindset to Support Our Students with the Most Challenging Behaviors Impacts Instruction (Sarah Michlig) 9:00-9:50 & 10:00-10:50 in B207
This session will explore causes of negative behaviors in the classroom, then consider alternative approaches to behavior supports and the beliefs behind these supports that make them so successful. Finally we will review a wide variety of instructional materials and supports that can be used across many different grade levels for many common behavior challenges.
